Casing Equipments of Well Completion equipments are used to describe equipment attached to, and run with, the casing string. Commonly used casing equipment includes Casing Centralizers, Stello-N-Centralizers, Guide or float shoes, float or landing collars, scratchers and cement baskets. More specialized casing hardware may include stage-cementing collars, differential fill-up equipment and other specialized equipment to help achieve successful placement and cementation of the casing string.
After drilling and casing the well, it must be 'completed'. Completion is the process in which the well is enabled to produce oil or gas. The products used during this process are known as Downhole Casing Products.
Well completion is generally broken down into three phases:
•Casing – where the piping is run and the cement casing is pumped in.
•Perforation – where holes are blasted through the casing at precise locations for stimulation and production flow. Often done in conjunction with tubing, packing, and setting up the Christmas tree.
•Stimulation – Hydraulic Fracturing, Acidizing. Preparing the rock formation for optimal flow.
In a cased-hole completion, small holes called perforations are made in the portion of the casing which passed through the production zone, to provide a path for the oil to flow from the surrounding rock into the production tubing. In open hole completion, often 'sand screens' or a 'gravel pack' is installed in the last drilled, uncased reservoir section. These maintain structural integrity of the wellbore in the absence of casing, while still allowing flow from the reservoir into the wellbore. Screens also control the migration of formation sands into production tubulars and surface equipment, which can cause washouts and other problems, particularly from unconsolidated sand formations of offshore fields.
A device fitted with a hinged, slip on or no weld collar and bow springs to keep the casing or liner in the center of the wellbore to help ensure efficient placement of a cement sheath around the casing string. If casing strings are cemented off-center, there is a high risk that a channel of drilling fluid or contaminated cement will be left where the casing contacts the formation, creating an imperfect seal.
